PUPPY SOCIALIZATION HOUR
About our puppy socialization program:
Puppy Socialization Hour at Big House K9 Training is more than just a fun play session—it is a critical step in raising a well-rounded, confident, and emotionally stable dog. The first few months of a puppy’s life are the most important for shaping their future behavior, as this is the prime socialization window when they are most receptive to new experiences. During this time, positive interactions with people, other dogs, and new environments help form the foundation for how they perceive the world as adults. A puppy that is well-socialized early on is more likely to grow into a confident, friendly, and adaptable adult dog, reducing the risk of fear-based behaviors such as reactivity, anxiety, and aggression.
At Big House K9 Training, we understand the importance of exposing puppies to new sights, sounds, and experiences in a safe, controlled, and positive manner. Our Puppy Socials provide young puppies with the opportunity to engage in appropriate play with other puppies of similar age, allowing them to develop crucial social skills such as bite inhibition, reading body language, and learning when to play gently or take breaks. These interactions are key in teaching puppies how to communicate effectively with other dogs, which will benefit them throughout their lives.
Socialization goes beyond just meeting other dogs; it also involves exposure to different people, environments, and stimuli. Puppies who attend our socialization hour will experience a variety of textures under their paws, such as grass, rubber mats, tile, and gravel, helping them build confidence in walking on different surfaces. They will also be introduced to common household and outdoor sounds, including doorbells, vacuum cleaners, and car noises, in a positive and controlled way, reducing the likelihood of noise sensitivities or fear reactions as they grow.
Additionally, socialization plays a major role in preventing behavioral issues down the road. Dogs who miss out on early socialization may develop fear-based reactions to new people, animals, or experiences, which can manifest in barking, hiding, or even aggression. By attending our Puppy Socials, owners can ensure that their puppies learn to navigate the world with curiosity rather than fear. A well-socialized puppy is more adaptable in new situations, making them a joy to take on outings, family vacations, and public spaces.
Our trainers are there every step of the way, ensuring that each puppy has a positive experience. We guide play sessions to promote healthy interactions, introduce new experiences at a comfortable pace, and help owners understand their puppy’s body language and needs. Puppy Socialization Hour is not just about play—it’s about creating a confident, resilient, and well-adjusted dog who will thrive in a variety of situations.
By investing in early socialization, owners are setting their puppies up for a lifetime of positive interactions and good behavior. Join us at Big House K9 Training for Puppy Socialization Hour and give your puppy the best possible start in life, ensuring they grow into a happy, well-mannered, and socially confident companion!

PUPPY KINDERGARTEN | OPEN ENROLLMENT
About our puppy program:
No need to wait for class to open or start! Open Enrollment allows you to join Puppy Kindergarten at any time.
Early socialization is vital for puppies’ overall well-being, as studies indicate that those raised without adequate interaction are more susceptible to behavior problems like fear-based aggression. For years, many dog owners were advised to keep their puppies isolated at home to avoid infectious diseases. This creates a dilemma: stay home and risk future behavioral issues, or venture out and face potential illness. However, the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior (AVSAB) now advocates for socialization before puppies are fully vaccinated. They recommend supervised interactions in controlled environments, allowing puppies to thrive mentally while minimizing health risks.
At Big House K9, we recognize the importance of socialization and offer classes starting at eight weeks of age, requiring proof of vaccination for enrollment. These classes are designed to expose puppies to new people, places, sounds, and experiences in a calm and positive atmosphere. We use positive reinforcement techniques, rewarding good behavior with praise, toys, treats, and affection. This method helps puppies associate new experiences with positive outcomes, significantly reducing the likelihood of fear or anxiety later in life.
It’s essential to select controlled environments for puppy socialization, as dog parks or unfamiliar outdoor spaces can pose health risks. Our Puppy Kindergarten classes take place in a safe, clean indoor setting, led by professional trainers. All puppies in the class are up-to-date on their vaccinations, ensuring a healthy space for your pet to learn and grow. By starting socialization early, around eight weeks after their first vaccinations, you can help your puppy develop into a well-adjusted, happy dog. Don’t wait—there’s a world of positive experiences waiting for your puppy!

SERVICE DOG TRAINING
Service Dog Certification & ADA
What You Need To Know:
Certification is NOT required by the ADA for service dogs. Be very cautious of websites selling service dog vests and IDs without proper verification, as there's no national service dog registry or official certifying organization under federal law. These sites are businesses selling gear, not legitimate organizations. The ADA does not recognize online certification or registration documents as proof of a service animal.
While the ADA doesn't mandate certification, having it can help prove your dog is a service dog. Big House K9 Training can provide certification, but your dog must meet our training standards and complete the outlined process below.
What is a Service Dog?
According to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a service animal is specifically a dog trained to perform tasks or do work for a person with a disability. These tasks must be directly linked to the individual’s disability, and the dog must be trained to execute a specific action to aid the person with their disability. It's important to note that a service dog is distinct from a pet.

Who this program is for:
Service dog training is designed for dogs who are being prepared to assist individuals with specific needs, such as mobility support, PTSD, or medical alerts. It’s ideal for those seeking to train a reliable, well-mannered companion that can provide life-changing support and independence through specialized tasks and behaviors.
Customized Service Dog Training Designed To Meet Your Specific Needs
Big House K9 Training provides in-person training for individuals seeking the support of a service dog to alleviate the impact of a medical disability. We specialize in training dogs to perform a variety of tasks, including but not limited to PTSD, light mobility support (excluding weight-bearing tasks), medical response, assistance for individuals with autism, and support for psychiatric conditions.
The duration of training a service dog varies significantly based on several factors, such as the dog’s age, willingness to learn, the complexity of tasks, the training environment, and the frequency of practice sessions. Typically, the training process can span anywhere from one to two years, depending on these variables.
Following the standards set by the International Association of Assistance Dog Partners (IAADP), training a service dog involves at least 120 hours over a minimum of six months, contingent on the dog and the tasks it needs to learn. During this period, it's also required for the dog to spend at least 30 hours in public settings to enhance their adaptability and ensure they behave appropriately in various social situations.
For those without a dog, we can help you find the ideal dog to meet your needs, whether it’s from a reputable breeder committed to ethical practices, a shelter, or a rescue organization.
If you already own a dog and are considering them for service work, we offer evaluations to determine their suitability for service tasks. Our goal is to maximize the likelihood of your dog successfully fulfilling the role you require. Please be aware that the evaluation does not include any training sessions it is strictly an evaluation.

At Big House K9 Training, we offer in-depth temperament evaluations for breeders, rescues, and prospective owners looking to ensure the best fit between a puppy or dog and their future home.
We’ve trained in multiple evaluation methods, including Badass Breeder (BAB) Evaluations, AKC Temperament Testing, and Avidog, and have developed our own approach that assesses 33 key temperament traits. Who this program is for:
Our evaluations are for breeders, rescues, and prospective dog owners who want expert insight into a puppy or dog's temperament before placement. Whether you're a breeder looking to match puppies with ideal homes, a rescue assessing adoptability, or a family seeking the right fit, our evaluations provide valuable guidance for informed decisions.
What does the Temperament Evaluation Include?
Includes: A full temperament and behavior assessment, a breakdown of key traits, and a personalized training plan to set the dog and owner up for long-term success.
What makes our Temperament Evaluation Different?
At Big House K9 Training, our temperament evaluations go beyond just labeling a dog’s personality—we provide prescriptive insights on what each puppy or dog will need for success in their new home. With over 350 dogs evaluated, we specialize in making the right match for both the family and the dog, ensuring a lifelong fit.
Unlike many trainers or breeders who focus only on placement, our evaluations include a detailed training plan tailored to each dog's strengths and areas for improvement. Our motto? "We don't match a bulldog with a marathon runner, just like we don't match a Belgian Malinois with a couch potato." We take the guesswork out of choosing the right companion, setting both dog and owner up for a thriving partnership.
Puppy & Litter Evaluations
Whether you're a breeder wanting insight on your litter or a family searching for the perfect puppy, we provide thorough evaluations to guide placement decisions. Testing is done in a neutral area of the breeder’s home, using sanitized equipment for safety. We go over results in detail and provide written documentation for each puppy.
Why Early Evaluations Matter:
The first 12 weeks of a puppy’s life are critical for shaping temperament. While genetics play a role, early socialization, environment, and training have a profound impact on how a puppy develops into adulthood.
Adult Dog & Rescue Evaluations
Bringing a new dog into your home? Considering adoption? We provide on-site temperament and behavior assessments—whether in your home, a shelter, or the dog’s current placement. Our evaluations help you understand the dog’s strengths, areas for improvement, and compatibility with your household.
